We are the Salisbury District, members of the Western North Carolina Conference of the Piedmont Episcopal District in The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Our Presiding Elder is the Reverend Dr. Grant Harrison, Jr. and Dr. Joanne Harrison is our First Lady.
The Salisbury District is comprised of 17 local churches located throughout the counties of Cabarrus, Rowan, Iredell, and Davie. We know the names of churches in the Salisbury District and where they are located. However, what we do not know is the history of the 17 local churches.
Under the leadership and assistance of Mrs. Mary Dawkins, member of Miller's Chapel AME Zion Church who served as the Salisbury District Secretary for almost 50 years, who coordinated the gathering of local church history for the District's Historical Society. Beginning with the Official Journal of the 37th Quadrennial Session of the General Conference of The A.M.E. Zion Church, this much requested information about our 17 local churches is found on the Local Church History page.
Many thanks are due to Mrs. Mary Dawkins for all of the hard work done to make this effort possible.
The Salisbury District local churches include: Soldier's Memorial, Moore's Chapel, Marable Memorial, Sandy Ridge, Southern City Tabernacle, Zion Wesley, White Rock, St. John, New Hope, Sills Creek, Cedar Grove, Third Creek, Miller's Chapel, South Iredell, Liberty, Providence, and Ardis Chapel of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
